Service Flying Clubs

Details below of service flying clubs that offer discounted flying and training for military personnel and associates. The majority of these training units are run by volunteers who generously give up their time to help run the clubs.

Bustard Flying Club, MOD Boscombe Down

Available club aircraft: 1x Slingsby T-67 Firefly (aerobatic), 1x Robin DR-400 4-seat tourer.

 

Cost per hour: £90 per airborne hour plus a Boscombe £5 taxi fee per flight.

 

Annual membership costs: £120 for full members, £150 for Associates.

 

Courses and Ratings offered: PPL, LAPL, NPPL, IMC/IR(R), aerobatics, renewal of class ratings.

 

Instructor rates: £20 per flight hour.

 

ELCAS registered. Due to the nature of flying at Boscombe with Fast Jets, Helicopters and large aircraft in the circuit during the day, it is initially only flying outside of ATEC hours thats allowed. This is evenings and weekends until an in-hours check is completed. You will also require QinetiQ security clearance to enter the base and an airfield driving permit, the club can assist with this.

Cost per hour:  Service members hire from £100/hr for hours building for 25hrs upfront payment. Hourly rates from 1/4/18 C152 £105 wet hire, training £130/hr.  C172 £117/hr hire, £143/hr training. Website has all current prices accurately.

 

Annual membership costs: £145 for full members, £170 for Associates.

 

Courses and Ratings offered: PPL, LAPL, NPPL, IMC/IR(R), renewal of class ratings with 2 examiners available.

We are a service club open to all service, ex-service and reservists, UAS staff, MOD contractors and Commonwealth/other services. Associates can join if space allows as relations of service personnel, cadet staff, part time reservists and some complete civilians. ELCAS registered and open 7 days a week.
